You have no idea what you are talking about. First of all it is not very hard to master. I taught myself in about 5 minutes, and had mastered it in a few days. Secondly, There is much more to driving a stick than going up and down through the gears. If you were even moderately good at it you would know that there is, coasting, down shifting to lug the engine down, thus slowing the car without using the brake, etc. Plus paddle shifters only go up and down through the gears one at a time. With a clutch you can go from any gear to any other gear (except reverse) in some cars. I have had both paddle and stick, and for a sports car there is no substitute for the pure driving joy gained from a stick. You need more practice.

Interesting article. The main reason stick shift drivers (like myself) enjoy manual so much is the challenge of it. We can drive for max economy, max power or just normal. The ability to drive a manual (as you found out) is a learned skill that rewards you for practising it.

Another reason is attention to driving. Learning in an auto at first was great (so I could get a feel of the road), but now I find my manual Holden Calais keeps me alert. At first it is distracting dancing with your feet, but later it forces you to keep your eyes on the road.

I guess another reason is rarity. It feels special to drive stick now, and I know some 10 year old punk with a crowbar can't take my pride and joy for a dangerous joy ride.
